A home's public face and private space.
October 27, 2025 :: Gardens
This house was built in an era when the front porch was a home’s public face, open to the street and sidewalk. From there, friends and neighbors were greeted as they passed by.

The porch of this vintage home is now shielded from traffic and strangers by lush greenery. Today, privacy is coveted by the residents who find refuge in the open air of the secluded space.
Privacy for this porch is provided by daylilies (Hemerocallis sp.), holly (Ilex sp.) and a Boston fern (Nephrolepis sp.) in a vintage planter.
GARDEN WALK photographs were made for the South Bend Art Museum Art League during their annual "Arts in Bloom" Garden Walks. The images were used for social media, promotions and education.
