Sometimes wild is a good thing.
August 20, 2025 :: Gardens
There’s no rule in horticulture that says a garden must be neat and tidy. Sometimes a little wild is a good thing.

We’ve all had times when it’s gotten a bit out of control. But a garden is forgiving and will never turn its back on us. Maybe a wild garden is just your style.
In truth, this garden is not so wild. What looks like disheveled patches are deliberately planted beds of ever-taller flowers. There’s a pleasant, casual method in this floral arrangement. Maybe it’s the relaxed example you’ve been waiting for.
Here a backdoor flower garden yields cut flowers and a sense of calm. This garden includes daylilies (Hemerocallis sp.), purple coneflowers (Echinacea sp.), goldenrods (Solidago sp.) and sunflowers (Helianthus sp.) ready for our appreciation out where they grow or in where we live.
GARDEN WALK photographs were made for the South Bend Art Museum Art League during their annual "Arts in Bloom" Garden Walks. The images were used for social media, promotions and education.
