Add shelter and structure to a garden.
October 6, 2025 :: Gardens

A pergola adds architectural interest and a sense of shelter to a garden.
Eventually, it may support flowering vines like clematis and wisteria or fruit-bearing vines like grapes and hops.
A pergola’s design, materials and purpose can vary as you like. But consider placing it where you can appreciate it from different perspectives in the yard and from the house.
This pergola defines a small perennial garden that stands alone in a side yard.
GARDEN WALK photographs were made for the South Bend Art Museum Art League during their annual “Arts in Bloom” Garden Walks. The images were used for social media, promotions and education.
