No matter where you’ve been or how your day was, a dooryard garden says, “Welcome Home!”

Our whole day can change in a few steps. We find comfort in familiar flowers, calming colors, and surprising scents. Maybe we’ll linger to admire our creation and pull a weed or pick a bloom.
Whether it’s a yard full of flowers, some potted plants on the patio or an orchid on the windowsill, any kind of plants around us make life better.
Here a dooryard garden fills the space between the driveway and a curving walkway that leads to the front porch of a brick Mid-century Modern house. The garden is packed with perennials like hostas, ferns, and astilbes. Shrubs like Crimson Pygmy barberry and assorted conifers punctuate the bed and border.
GARDEN WALK photographs were made for the South Bend Art Museum Art League during their annual "Arts in Bloom" Garden Walks. The images were used for social media, promotions and education.
