An unplanned pairing.

Combining plants with similar colors and contrasting leaf shapes is the mark of an experienced gardener. Or a lucky one.

Here variegated Bishop’s weed (Aegopodium podagraria ‘Variegata’) creeps into a clump of variegated hostas. Planned or not, the combination of leaf shapes and colors creates an appealing sense of calm.
Hostas are available in a mind-blowing assortment of colors and leaf sizes. Bishop’s weed, on the other hand, is now considered an invasive non-native plant and may be hard to find. If you choose it, be prepared to keep it under control and out of the woods and grasslands.
When you take a walk through a garden, slow down and look around. The slower you go, the more you see.
GARDEN WALK photographs were made for the South Bend Art Museum Art League during their annual "Arts in Bloom" Garden Walks. The images were used for social media, promotions and education.
